I can't think of any Cantonese families that does not have soup in the dinner menu. It really does not matter what type of soup; there is always soup. The reasoning is soups helps to push the food through the body which helps to eliminate kidney stones.
The Cantonese uses different herbal ingredients in soup to aide the body functions. I guess soups are not really make for taste, but rather for health purposed. (If the soup taste great, it's a bonus.)
